Yukari (with a little translation assistance by Robert) gave an excellent summary on Early pieces over 12cm in height, pointing out fine details on the pieces displayed.

It was a beautiful bright fall day and people were drawn to Marsha's views of the city.

Steve asked participants for photos prior to the meeting so their netsuke could be shown on the projection screen and briefly described by the owner before the handling session. Here are few pictures of the items we all enjoyed handling.

The afternoon was far too short and we adjourned to a local restaurant for dinner for the dozen folks who could stay.

Anne and I made the 350 mile drive up between my two eye surgeries and LA Chair Sue Romaine flew in. INS members Steve and Jennifer were visiting from Minneapolis and even brought some examples from their collection. The evening was capped off by a boisterous dinner a few blocks down the street. Anyone who plans to join this group at a future meeting should plan on 7 to 8 hours of netsuke fun! Here a a few pics of members engrossed in study.

I am hoping that we can put together an all-California meeting of both the INS Northern California Chapter and the INS Los Angeles (Southern California) Chapter later this year. The chances to meet new collectors and students in this field, to handle all kinds of netsuke and sagemono, and to learn and broaden your knowledge and experience, are some of the best opportunities of membership in the International Netsuke Society. And sharing this with the rest of us here is the next best thing to being there. Big Thanks!

- we had a total of 19 attendees ... according to Marsha, it was the largest group in the SF area in 15-20 years ...
- for the handling session, we displayed about 50 pieces on a powerpoint presentation prior to handling ... but there were closer to 75 pieces available (some additions that we had no pictures of) .... It was a great assortment of styles, types, and quality and allowed for some great comparisons and discussion ...
- And thanks again to all who attended, especially those who traveled up to hundreds of miles (from Reno, Sacramento, LA) for the session ... We look forward to seeing all of you at our next meeting in the Fall ....
