The first tutorial can be found here -

Tutorial Synopsis

Are there topics you are reading, but not contributing any posts to? You would like to know when someone posts something new on that topic? Then this is the tutorial for you.

Step 1 - (If You've Already Followed the Steps in Tutorial 1 of this Series - Go Direct to Step 2)

Visit your User Control Panel (UCP).

Click on the Board preferences tab located at the top of the UCP.

Click on the link entitled Edit notification options displayed in red text in the following image.

Please click on image to enlarge...
en3.jpg

You will see an option Someone replies to a topic to which you are subscribed. Click on the Email check box as encircled in green in the image above. Make sure you save this new preference by clicking on the Submit button to complete the update.

Step 2

Visit the topic you wish to receive email updates on. At the bottom of the page you will see a spanner icon as encircled in green in the following image. Click on this icon to open a menu of options.

Please click on image to enlarge...

Step 3

On completion of Step 2 you will see a list of options appear. Click on the Subscribe topic link as encircled in green in the following image.

Please click on image to enlarge...

Step 4

On completion of Step 3 you will see a message confirming you've subscribed to the topic.

Please click on image to enlarge...

Conclusion & Notes

That's it. You will now receive emails whenever someone posts to a topic you've subscribed to.

Just like on the old forum, you won't receive an email for every post on the topic - you will only receive the first reply on the topic, since your last visit. This is by design. You do not need 100 email notifications for the same topic, if there were 100 replies. You only need to be notified that there are replies to the topic. Then you know to visit the forum and catch up on the topic.

To unsubscribe simply click on the Unsubscribe topic link as encircled in green in the following image.

The options are quite versatile, so I will create a few scenario guides to simplify the options. By default these options were set to off because some users may feel like they are being spammed.

Tutorial Synopsis

Would you like to receive an email update when someone posts a reply in a topic you've posted in? This is the tutorial for you.

Step 1

To start you will need to be logged in under your account. Click on your account name on the top right of the site, which in turn, displays a drop down menu. In this drop down menu click on the User Control Panel (UCP) link as encircled in green in the following diagram.
en1.jpg

Step 2

On completion of Step 1 you will be taken to your UCP. On the top area of your UCP please click on the Board preferences tab, then on the sub menu on the left, click on Edit posting defaults displayed in red text in the following image.

Please click on image to enlarge...
en2.jpg

You will see an option Notify me upon replies by default. Click on the Yes radio button as encircled in green in the image above. Make sure you save this new preference by clicking on the Submit button to complete the update.

NB: This will create an automatic topic subscription whenever you submit a post to a topic.

Step 3

On completion of Step 2 please look again to the left menu and click on the link entitled Edit notification options displayed in red text in the following image.

Please click on image to enlarge...
en3.jpg

You will see an option Someone replies to a topic to which you are subscribed. Click on the Email check box as encircled in green in the image above. Make sure you save this new preference by clicking on the Submit button to complete the update.

Conclusion & Notes

That's it. You will now receive emails whenever someone posts to a topic you have also posted in.

I hope this will serve as a useful prompt to visit the forum to read replies to a topic you have contributed to.

So lot's of interest already on the new feature introduced yesterday. I feel compelled to write a tutorial sooner rather than later. We already have a member who sent me images today, and now they have their first 3D Netsuke to share!

So here are the basics.

A rotation is made up of a number of images that the tool on the forum binds together to make the 360 degree rotation. These can be as little or as many as you have the will to shoot. I recommend 12 as minimum, 24 ideal, 36 very smooth. Basically the more you take in a 360 rotation, the smoother the rotation will be.

You will need to get yourself a device to rotate the item you want to photograph. In my case I found a small cake rotator for next to nothing. The rotator can be manual (you'll need to mark out the lines so you know where to move the next shot to) or automatic.

Next up - fix your camera (or believe it or not - phone camera as the member I mentioned above did) to a tripod or table and get the object framed and focused correctly. N.B. This is not a photography tutorial. If you don't know what I mean by framing or focusing get someone else to take the images for you.

If you are using a manual rotator take a shot each degree you have marked out. If using an automatic rotator do the maths for one rotation to get the number of shots you desire and then set your camera or phone to take an image automatically at each set interval. For example if the rotator takes 25 seconds to rotate set your camera to take a shot, 24 times, at 1 second intervals.

I recommend you set your camera or phone to shoot at 16:9 rather than 3:2. It's much more sympathetic to displaying the image in full screen mode.

Please set your image size to 1600 pixel width.

Set you camera or phone to name each image like so;

Netsuke_Large_01.jpg
Netsuke_Large_02.jpg
Netsuke_Large_03.jpg
...
Netsuke_Large_24.jpg

The bits in bold are required and I'll only have to spend the time to rename if you don't. The part not in bold please name whatever you wish.

The first set will be your full screen images.

You then want to create a second set at 640 pixels width. These will be named;

Netsuke_Small_01.jpg
Netsuke_Small_02.jpg
Netsuke_Small_03.jpg
...
Netsuke_Small_24.jpg

Get the images to me, and I will return you the URL to the 3D image to post on the forum at your discretion.

I don't expect everyone to get to grips with this straight away - it requires basic skills in photography and image resizing. I can help with either of these skills privately, if you write to me and offer your best Netsuke as payment.

P.S. For those lacking a sense of humour - the last bit about payment was a joke, it doesn't have to be your best Netsuke
