On 23rd March 2013, Nick will be cycling solo, and unsupported, from John O’Groats to Lands End, to raise money for Childreach International.
As Nick says:
‘So after a few issues, and changing the route, the cycle will now definitely by a JOGLE, and train tickets have been purchased with most of the overnight stays confirmed so there is no backing out now!
My bike is fully ready to go and some sturdy Schwalbe Durano S tyres are on order as I’m thinking riding it on Ultremo ZXs may not be the most sensible idea! Speaking of sensible ideas, every other blog I’ve read and cyclist I’ve spoken to seems to use panniers, however I don’t fancy this, partly for the additional weight and partly for the additional width created adding to what may already be a difficult experience in the likely windy conditions and so will be trying to fit everything in a 25L rucksack and hopefully ‘strengthen’ rather than bugger my back in the process! What is concerning me a little regarding the weather is that as I write this less than 3 weeks before the event, there are numerous weather warnings for heavy snowfall anticipated tomorrow….I hope it just gets all the bad weather out of the way prior to Easter!’
